Whether you missed out on early spring AC preparation or are looking to go over the system once more ahead of the hot Utah summer approaching, this is a vital period of the year when it comes to your air conditioner system and related components. During this two-part blog, we’ll go over a number of areas to consider for late-spring or early-summer HVAC prep, both DIY and those that may require assistance from our HVAC professionals in certain cases.
Filter Changes or Cleanings
One of the single most important elements here, and really throughout the year, is ensuring your system’s filter has been recently changed – or cleaned, if it’s the type allowing for this sort of thing. Clean air filters hold several areas of value for your HVAC system, starting with their ability to filter contaminants out of the air and keep your indoor air quality high.
These benefits extend further, however. Clean air filters allow for efficient, optimal energy use within your system as air passes easily through the filtration area – dirty filters, on the other hand, will slow this process down and force the AC to work much harder to pump out the same level of cool air. Disposable filters should be replaced monthly or even more often in some cases, while washable filters should be cleaned at least as often as recommended by the manufacturer.
Drainage Hole
Generally speaking, modern air conditioners come with a drainage hole near their cabinet’s case. This hole needs to be clear at all times for the system to work properly – any blockage or clogging will stop drainage from taking pace, which will once again strain the unit and lower its efficiency. A similar area in many models is the P-trap, where clogs can also occur, which should also be kept clear. If you’re unsure where these areas are, our HVAC pros will be happy to show you.
Ducts and Vents
It’s also important to evaluate the state of your duct system, which transports the AC’s cool air throughout the home. In particular, inspect the visible duct areas for any cracks or leaks – and if you’ve had air loss issues in the past, you may consider calling our pros for a more in-depth duct inspection. In addition, be sure to check vents and their registers are free and not clogged or blocked.
